In 2001, John Michael Cooper started a trend in photography called “Trash the Dress.” The concept was to place the bride in a scenario that contrasted the elegance of her dress with the surrounding environment. This trend has inspired many brides to get back in their dress after their wedding and do some crazy photo sessions. I’ve seen photos of brides that have gone swimming in a moss filled ponds, rolled in the mud, slung paint and even set themselves on fire. Now that being said, most brides don’t go to that far of an extreme. Normally the dress doesn’t get dirty enough that a cleaning won’t fix.
So now that you know the back story of trashing the dress, on to today’s blog post. Christina and Melissa have been best friends for years. I have shot both of their wedding within the last year. When Christina asked to do a trash the dress shoot, we couldn’t leave out Melissa. I asked them about location, and their reply was that they wanted train tracks and water. Great, I knew just the quite little place. Of course the day that we to make pictures, there were people everywhere. Luckily everyone was super nice and constantly gave their congratulations. We even had a couple of guys jump in for a picture!
